about

When bandcamp announced it would be waiving its fees in a show of support for artists and musicians who'd lost revenue as a result of COVID-19 last week, we decided we had to do something especially for the occasion and we knew we had to act fast. Plan A was concocted but fell through (a rush-released two-track single that will now see the light of day in June). Plan B came into play on Monday just past (5 days before release date), heads were scratched, brains were stormed, emails were sent. By Tuesday we had 5 tracks. By Wednesday artwork, by Thursday (the day before release) the tracks had been mastered. Quite a feat!

Produced in just 4 days, we are proud to present possibly the fastest EP ever made - Invisible family EP#3.

Featuring friends & collaborators from around the world, this 3rd volume displays the wide range of sounds the label is known for, from rhythmic tribal techno and synthetic new wave to ambient and experimental...with a healthy dollop of motorik oddness in between.

Most importantly, 50% of profits from sales will go to the artists and the other 50% will be donated to Glasgow Mutual Aid, a charity organisation currently doing a lot of frontline support work for the elderly, vulnerable and those in quarantine/isolation in Glasgow.

Side A opens with our man in Budapest, Bal5000, by whom we released a 12" a couple of years back...this time he gyrocopters in on a retro-infused electro synth vibe. The atmosphere is very much reminiscent of 80s teenage horror movies. Like a theatrical feature in several parts the 8-minute epic develops like an imaginary movie: complete with tension building intro, a chase scene, and finally release at the end.

Sigward, operating from Berlin and DJing at the great Eleve night at Sameheads is about as prolific as you can get and comes up with the goods as always with a rhythmic, hynotic beat mantra that touches the ionisphere.

Track three is by new freak on the block Filibalou whose monthly night at Freak Out Club in Bologna is one of our favourite parties ever. Heading north to Germany for inspiration for "Molto Kosmisch" is a pan-generational krautrock epic where classic Harmonia meets contemporary Musiccargo

This is followed up by YNV...a Brussels-born music-loving video artist who upped sticks and is now residing in San Francisco where he curates Vague Terrain (another favourite party) and crafts music using obscure vintage 80s/90s audio gear. "Velvet Dream" is YNV's first quarantine track, made one morning after lockdown had begun and features Janina Angel Bath on the Yamaha CS5.

Finally, closing the EP is Mister X's Cabaret of Nothingness project, inspired by the 19th Century French nightclub of the same name. Refusing to reveal anything about his shadowy history, we apply the pressure and he eventually shares the rather sweet insight that the track was made entirely with just one synthesizer, the Roland Juno-60, his first ever synthesizer acquired almost three decades ago (awwww).

____________

One thing all these artists have in common is their livelihoods have been affected by COVID-19, some of them with cancelled gigs/tours or just with their line of work being impacted.

That, in combination with the fact that most everyone has been affected by COVID-19 in some ways, we have decided that all profits from this release will be split equally, between artists and Glasgow Mutual Aid, a charity organisation currently doing a lot of front line support work for the elderly, vulnerable and those in quarantine/isolation.
